Beginner's Guide to Earning your Tapes

In order to track students' progress while being able to evaluate them on their skills so that they may advance to their next belt for their Belt Test, we have designed a system where each students must get 3 different tapes. Each tapes correspond to the skills students will be learning for each belt. There is Black Tape for Poomse, Red Tape for Combinations, and White Tape for Breaking Techniques.

Belt Test Overview

Our Belt Test is held every two months and gives students the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have been building throughout their training. The test evaluates each core area of their curriculum, ensuring students feel confident, prepared, and ready to advance to their next belt level.

To participate, students must have completed the three required tapes:

  • Black Tape – Poomse (Forms)

  • Red Tape – Kicking Combinations & One-Step Sparring

  • White Tape – Breaking Techniques

During the test, students will perform:

  • Their belt-level Poomse

  • Required kicking combinations

  • One-step sparring techniques

  • Board breaking appropriate to their rank

Each of these skills is explained in detail on the curriculum section below to help students practice and prepare effectively.

As you continue down the page, you’ll find training resources organized by tape requirement. To view upcoming Belt Test dates or our full testing schedule, please click the calendar button below.
